Having just been discharged from LGH, and seeing the pamphlet concerning the DAISY Award, I would like to nominate a nurse that went way above and beyond her "duties" in helping me during the hospitalization.

I am G-Tube dependent, and also use a Mic-Key "button" which is not the usual set up for a woman who is 75 years old. Kara Seiler is the nurse who went to bat for me. Everything that she promised, she accomplished. She gave me updates, which alleviated the usual anxiety that accompanies a "stay in the Big House." She was honest with me, forthright, and professional at all times. She tackled the Mic-Key feedings with no hesitation, wanting to learn about them so the next time she has a patient with such an appliance, she is ahead of the game.

She did not hesitate to do whatever necessary to finally obtain the Osmolite (my "food") after a 26 hour "fast" that potentially affected my blood sugars (I become hypo-glycemic suddenly and it has been an ongoing problem...but my body held out this time and we did not face that additional situation). She understood that even though I am on a feeding tube, I still need to "taste" and chew food, and nicely provided a snack when finally the NPO orders were lifted.

Her overall demeanor is pleasant and caring. Her compassion...almost tangible. Her gentleness, even when the news is not good, commendable. She explained everything, and made sure that I understood her explanation.

I cannot begin to tell you how her attentiveness boosted my weary self, for this medical situation has been occurring for three years now, and until this past hospitalization, there was no diagnosis. When test results all come back negative the patient is in danger of being perceived as a "chronic complainer," someone seeking attention. I felt that I was almost or even at that point in all of this, with mysterious pain and no perceivable cause for that pain. Hmmm. Is this a Psychiatric referral here? I hope that this email will suffice in placing Kara's name on the nominee list and hopefully "elected" list for your DAISY Award.

Please note Kara is our Lancaster General's first two-time DAISY Award recipient!
