...I was recently a patient in Broward Health Medical Center for a colon resection due to carcinoid tumors. The diagnosis and subsequent medical procedures were somewhat frightening. Several days following surgery I developed chest pains. Immediate testing followed and I was transferred to the Cardiac floor. My fear was elevated at this point. I had worried about the surgery and chest pain was the last thing that I wanted.

When Broward Health hires nurses, I presume they desire caring individuals that are dedicated to improving the health of their patients. I am writing this letter to inform you that one such nurse, Kara Owens personified every great quality that could be found in a person dedicated to patient comfort and progressing back to good health.

First, given a somewhat frightening episode, Kara made me feel safe and that I had a team member that would be there to assure my recovery. From the initial meeting through and up to release, I was in the very best of care and that was incredibly comforting. Each day began with a discussion of goals for the day. There were days where Nurse Owens worked past her appointed time to ensure completion of our goals. In retrospect, we achieved every goal set forth. There is no doubt that my personal achievements were directly linked to my nurse.

As a Director for the Sheriff's Office, I come into contact with hundreds of people in the course of the year. I understand quality people. I understand someone who personifies the very best qualities required by their profession. Ms. Kara Owens is exemplary as your representative. In no small way does the success of Broward Health get measured by the performance and dedication of their employees. With this lady in your employ, Broward Health has a road of greatness ahead.
