Kammy is the deserving winner of Murphy Medical Center’s DAISY award for October 2010.
As an Operating Room nurse, she is known by her peers for her willingness to help her co-workers out, and has on several instances stayed late or come in extra days to help cover her unit. She is often heard asking co-workers, “What can I do to help you?”
Going an extra mile for her patients is part of Kammy’s day to day routine as well. She possesses a calm and reassuring demeanor that helps her patients to relax before surgery. She is often seen holding the hands of her patients and helping them to soothe them in anyway she can.
Her nomination recounted the story of how Kammy spent extra time with a patient who was extremely anxious about his surgery, which was an add-on at the end of a busy day in the OR. After thoroughly reviewing the patient’s complex medical history, she took extra time to address multiple questions and concerns with both the patient and his family. Following surgery, Kammy was right by his side as he was recovering from the anesthesia, helping him to relax and feel safe and secure.
Kammy Holloway-Neal goes above and beyond to ensure that each patient has the best surgical experience possible, and truly exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY nurse.
