I am nominating K Ashworth, the SICU Nurse Manager to receive the DAISY award. K is an exemplary leader, mentor, staff nurse, and an educator of the SICU and this organization. I remembered K when she received the news that she had breast cancer, I was standing in the charge nurse office room with the other nurse, I looked at her..... she was astounded and started crying and said, "why me....I don't need any sympathy from anybody". However, in spite of her illness and during her treatment K is the only Nurse Manager of this organization who comes to the unit early morning to listen to the shift report of the charge nurses, talked to the staff nurses of the previous shift regarding staff concerns and problems and clean the waiting room. K helped staff members turn and clean patients in the unit. When the unit is short of staff, K functions as a staff nurse of any shift to avoid staff mandation. K always talks to family members about their concerns and reassure family members about their loved ones while in the SICU. K is always visible to the staff members of the SICU as well as to the patient’s family members.
K is an extraordinary person who deserves this prestigious award! Therefore, in behalf of the entire unit of SICU I recommend K to receive the DAISY Award.
