Nomination from a patient family:

On July 17, my wife gave birth to our first child. It was the best moment of my life. We are blessed to have such a beautiful boy in our lives. It has been quite an adjustment. Our lives were changed overnight. My wife has researched, learned, and trained to breast feed our son. It has not been as easy as we would like it to be. We were instructed by our midwife to find a lactation consultant to help our chances of successfully breastfeeding our son. We contacted the hospital and made an appointment to meet with one.

I did not know what to expect, but went to the appointment with a positive attitude that my wife would be able to do this with the help of a professional. That is when we met Judy Walters. I was overwhelmed by the determination, passion, and positive care that our family has received. She was energetic and determined that our son would latch to the breast. I cannot describe how awesome she is at her job. She spent over an hour and half at our first visit trying to determine what was going on with our son. I even saw beads of sweat coming down her forehead as she worked tirelessly to get him to latch.

The second visit was even more remarkable than the first. Upon entering her office, we were given hard copies of research that she conducted on her own. This research helped explain why the latching was being difficult. She found out what could be the problem, that our son has a posterior tongue tie. The research that she conducted helped to explain the problem we were having with our son. She even helped educate our pediatrician about the problem he was having, he had never heard of.

I have been overwhelmed by our experience with her. Judy is definitely an asset for CCMC. She is the example of what a nurse should strive to be. Compassionate, determined, hard working, positive, and loving. I look forward to our next consultation with her and will recommend her and CCMC lactation services “For a Lifetime” I only hope that your hospital will see her value and continue to offer this service to us and others.
