Joe's first verbal interaction was with my wife while I was unconscious and in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit after my minimally invasive aorta valve replacement. Joe assured her that my condition was in a normal stage. Noting her glances at all of the monitoring equipment, he was able to answer her questions with good explanations of what was being monitored and why. They exchanged phone numbers so that there could be contact when necessary. Early the following morning my wife called, Joe was still with me and gave the great news that I was up, in a chair, and had eaten some broth. Joe is very deft in emphasizing the positive. When Joe became aware of my hearing deficit, he created a sign that hung at eye level on one of the primary monitors so that any staff person checking could see it. This was very helpful. Joe was very sensitive to my pain management, letting me know it was okay to utilize the medication. This was important to me.

Anu, Joe's manager, had to say, "Joe loves working with people and helping others. He is a team player and is well-liked by all of his patients. Many of his patients have complimented him on his expertise and his ability to make them feel at ease while in the Intensive care. Joe has been a great addition to our SICU. We wish Joe continued success and feel very fortunate to have him on our team! Congrats, Joe!"
