“Jessie has been nominated by the entire 75 Digestive Medicine UPC. This was a unanimous decision based on the many episodes of TRUSTED colleague behavior. Jessie has worked at Memorial since 2001 and I have worked personally with him for four years. He has been a wonderful role model for me personally as a new charge nurse on the day shift. I view Jessie as “the calm during the storm.” His consistent, excellent work clearly demonstrates the qualities required for this award.”

“I cannot think of anyone more deserving the DAISY Award than Jessie Provost, one of our night charge nurses. I feel I am constantly learning something new on the nights I work with him. He makes rounds to check on all the patients and makes sure they are getting the care they need.

I can think of a specific situation in which I was trying explain to a patient he could not take his home medications and that is was hospital policy to either have them taken home or locked up in pharmacy. The patient became very upset at this because he was able to keep his medicine at the bedside in the past and take them himself so I asked Jessie to help me reassure the patient that it is our policy and he was able to diffuse the situation while regaining the patient’s trust. Not only is Jessie a leader, but he is also a team player with compassion both for his patients and coworkers. He is also open to telling staff members what they can work on to better themselves. Jessie is one of the most knowledgeable, compassionate, hard-working nurses I have ever met and I’m glad to have him on our floor!”

Jessie challenges his nurses. There are many instances when new RN’s come to Jessie with questions. He is very knowledgeable and willing to share.

However, Jessie is great at not giving the answers away. He encourages the nurse to use his/her critical thinking skills and walks them through their problem to the answers they need. Jessie has been serving in the nursing field for several years and has been devoted to his patients and colleagues. He is more than deserving of the DAISY Award.”
