Jerry Wilson is a night shift Nursing Unit Supervisor on MCSC 3 West. Jerry demonstrates true MERIT values and consistently performs above and beyond the call of his job description. On numerous occasions Jerry has demonstrated his care and compassion for patients’ family members and staff. During the past year our unit has been very short staffed. Jerry does not hesitate to pick up a team of patients and do charge nurse when needed, not only taking care of the patients but also taking care of the new nurses that night shift is staffed with. I have observed on several occasions when I would get in to work, Jerry would be sitting at the tele desk, because one of our CMT went home sick. He was making assignments for the upcoming shift and performing his NUS duties as well as taking care of the tele patients. Jerry did not have one complaint when I asked if he had a good night. He functions as a NUS as well as our downtime representative.

During the recent downtime, our staff made the comment that our unit was completely ready and had all of the things needed for the downtime. It was one of the "smoothest" downtimes that I can remember. Jerry spent numerous hours on his days off to prep for the downtime and prepare education for the staff. Jerry is responsible for the entire unit and takes his job very seriously. He treats each patient as if they were his own family. Jerry has received numerous MERIT awards from the staff and the NUS group. Jerry always has a positive attitude, accepts the rapid changes in the healthcare setting. He is the perfect example of what it means to be a Nurse!

Second nomination:
I work in the Cardiac Stepdown staffing pool. I float to all 8 stepdown units and I have been a nurse here for over 30 years. I feel honored and lucky to work with Jerry. He shows the upmost caring and concern for the patients in his care and maintains extreme professionalism in very difficult situations. He is a great problem solver and resource for the patients, families, and the staff on 3 west as well as physicians. He is the prime example of what Merit is all about. I would like to see this award go to Jerry for all his caring and going the extra mile!

Third nomination:
Jerry is always going above and beyond to help others. He steps in to complete anything that is needed. Jerry is an extraordinary nurse and always carries and presents a positive, outgoing personality to others. Jerry has shown he is deserving of the DAISY Award.

Fourth nomination:
He is always willing to lend a helping hand. He defines the word MERIT. He is respectful and courteous to all. He is compassionate and is a perfect example of what all nurses should be.

Fifth nomination:
Jerry Wilson is such a wonderful NUS. He always uses his PEARLS, and has a MERIT attitude. Jerry could be having a busy night and still be smiling in the AM. He is always helping our unit by doing whatever is needed or getting us prepared for downtime. I know that if I ever need any help, or have an issue Jerry will be there with an open ear and suggestions. I feel privilege to have a wonderful coworker / NUS as Jerry Wilson!

Sixth nomination:
Jerry is a very good nurse, fun to work with always in a good mood, ready to help others no matter what. He is an excellent nurse.

Seventh nomination:
He is a very competent NUS, downtime coordinator and can diligently work as in many roles when needed and in extremely professional manner.

Eighth nomination:
I have worked with Jerry on 3 West for over a year now. I have never once been here to work with Jerry that he hasn't completely exceeded the call of duty. He is truly a "Jerry" of all trades. He can work tele, huc secretary, nursing on the floor and charge, he's an amazing NUS and the most amazing team player. Jerry is always willing to help. He is able to stay calm, cool, and collected when things get hectic. Jerry spent a lot of his own time helping to prepare the floor and assist through the recent downtime. Not only is he almost always a first responder in an emergency, but he is able to jump in, assess the situation, and take care of the patient as swiftly as if he were tying his shoes. Jerry is such a tremendous asset to our unit and our hospital. I feel so comfortable knowing that he is on the floor when I walk on. I feel safe and rest assured knowing that the shift is going to run smoothly. I appreciate Jerry more than I can express and I'm ecstatic that I have had the opportunity to work with him here at Mission Hospital. So it is in my opinion that Jerry Wilson is more than deserving of an award as honorable as the DAISY Award.

Ninth nomination:
Jerry demonstrates superior nursing leadership every time he works. He is always willing to help in any situation and is very knowledgeable. He also is able to perform multiple skills on the unit such as: nurse, CNA, HUC, and monitor tech.
