Jeri worked so hard to get her patient well and had hope, just as we did. We said many prayers over the 73 days she was sick. We thank God, Saint Clare, and Jeri for the many miracles she was blessed with. Despite our doubting any improvement, Jeri persisted to work with her and strive for her progress. We thank Jeri for working so hard, and for believing in her. It was because of Jeri, that she was able to get off the ventilator.
Once moved to rehab, we told her about our favorite nurse, Jeri, who we referred to as her Angel Nurse. She didn’t remember her time in the hospital but said, “We’ll have to go thank her”. When she returned to CCU, she recognized Jeri and said, “She is my Angel Nurse”. We were so comforted that Jeri was her nurse the last two days of her life. Jeri was the reason we got 47 days with her off the ventilator, to hear her voice, and see her true personality return to us. She was so strong through her suffering and hardships, and worked extremely hard in rehab, but her body gave up and we were shocked at the sudden news of her setback. She was to receive chemo the following week and we remained hopeful that with treatment she would have time left with us.
Her final day was another miracle, and although not the one we hoped for, our prayers were answered in a different way. She waited for us to arrive, knew we were there, and left us peacefully. We feel this was God’s plan to keep her from suffering with cancer any further. God allowed her to not go alone, and gave her the strength to acknowledge us, and go with peace. She died in our arms and her soul passed through us. We couldn’t have asked for a better nurse to care for her.
