Jennifer went above and beyond to care for a patient with a fetal demise. She provided the patient and her family with a cuddle cot so that they can stay with their baby as long as they desired. She tended to their every need both physically and emotionally in the direst days after delivery. Jennifer provided this particular family a beautiful lasting lifelong memory of bonding with their child this is the only experience they will ever have with their baby. She shared an emotional moment of sheer grief when the patient heard another baby crying upstairs on another unit. Jennifer swift, without thought hugged the patient to console her. Both patient and nurse at that moment were intertwined in the most powerful form and basic way to connect to another person - the patient was sobbing in the shower.
"Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity." - Pema Chodron
