I believe Jennifer should receive the DAISY Award for the extraordinary care she provided to a patient and the compassion she displayed indirectly to the patient’s family.

A trauma patient came in as a John Doe with a non-survivable brain injury. Jennifer stayed at the patient’s bedside holding his hand and talking to him as he died from his injury. She felt someone should be at his side since his identity was not known at the time. She went out of her way to comfort the man and treat him with dignity.

She wanted his parents and family to know that he did not die alone. She spoke with the police and medical examiner to ensure that, when his family was identified, they were made aware that their son, brother, fiancé did not die alone. This message was indeed passed on to his parents. Jennifer recently received a phone call from the patient’s mother to tell her how grateful she was that her son did not die alone and to thank her for her compassion. How extraordinary is that!
