Jeanne was an “angel in disguise” for a patient on 9700. For two days, Jeanne was the charge nurse on the division. We had a very difficult patient with advanced dementia, the patient was constantly in and out of bed and wandering the halls. Out of concern for the patient’s safety, Jeanne set the patient next to her at the charge desk for two days. Jeanne was very calm, patient, and never showed her frustration with the patient’s behavior to the patient. It was obvious that Jeanne was a source of calmness and reassurance for the patient. Jeanne let the patient know everything would be alright. She discovered that Frank Sinatra’s music was soothing to the patient. She played this music at the desk for the patient and the patient was visibly relaxed. Jeanne’s kind and calming and caring behaviors toward this patient allowed the patient’s nurse to care for her other patients, which I know was much appreciated.
