I have been blessed to share an office with Janet Moss, Advanced Practice Nurse, Pain Services. As a result, every day I witness firsthand her interactions with patients who are in need of her care. I have never met a more compassionate, caring, loving nurse in the over 27 years that I have worked for Advocate Christ Medical Center.

In Janet's role, she is consulted by physicians to manage their patients' pain. Her expertise and knowledge is remarkable in itself but her genuine compassion is to listen to patients who are suffering from pain and develop strategies to relieve the suffering. Janet's compassion and dedication to each individual patient, even after discharge, to listen and respond to their concerns, speaks to her excellence of care.

She visits patients at their homes - on her own time - to make sure they are comfortable, makes herself available to anyone who needs her help. This is all done as a volunteer, outside of her work hours. This passionate excellence and humility are the qualities that empower her to go more than halfway to meet the needs and demands of others.

A 63 year old Oak Lawn woman was discharged to home and was put on hospice care. Janet visited her several times to make sure she was comfortable and to help her in any way that she could. When this patient passed away, Janet attended the funeral. This is not an isolated incidence. This is the norm for Janet Moss.

Janet Moss is retiring from Advocate this year. Certainly Advocate realizes they are retiring one of the most remarkable nurses that has graced our hospital. It will not surprise you to hear that the reason Janet is retiring is so that she can dedicate more time to helping others as she spreads Christ's love. It is with humility that I say "thank you" for modeling what listening with your heart looks like.
