For the past 29 years, Jane has been caring for patients with complex cardiac disorders and heart failure. Her peers say "after one shift with Jane as their nurse, patients can verbalize how heart failure works and recite their medical management". In addition to teaching patients, she is a resource for the nurses she works with. As a nurse scholar, we turn to her for clinical advice and expertise in reading challenging telemetry strips. Jane is respected by her patients, her fellow nurses, and the medical staff of our unit. Attending doctors often solicit her opinion during rounds, and she is quick to point out important clinical facts that may have been left out of the plan of care. Her attention to detail ensures that her patients receive the best nursing care and medical care.

In addition to her full-time work schedule, Jane is also very involved in the community with the Vasculitis Foundation. Her work with this group has also positively impacted patients on our unit when a patient presents with signs and symptoms of vasculitis. She provides information and support that helps patients effectively manage this chronic disorder. She loves what she does, and her patients are more knowledgeable and healthier because of her passion and dedication.
