I have a rare autoimmune disease (mast cell activation disorder with angioedema) which is still being researched. With the attacks, my airway swells. I develop respiratory distress and severe pain. I have been a nurse for many years and I hope I gave care like I have received from Jane. I am very impressed with the nurses at The University of Kansas Hospital in general (that’s saying a lot since I’m from MU).

When I developed rapid angioedema and severe pain suddenly, I was so happy to see Jane’s smiling face! I could not speak because of the stridor but Jane remembered me. I was so thankful she started the series of treatments for this this disease, she kept calm and calmed me down which is not so easy when you cannot breathe! She was so calming and professional. I always fear that I will wake up on a ventilator and I may someday, but this time Jane saved the day.
Of course, the entire staff of Unit 46 is awesome and, if I can’t be home, it is where I feel the safest. Thank you ALL.
