Jan was in my room with one of my surgeons when he told me that I had to have surgery. I've been through two previous surgeries, so I knew what was coming. I was scared and broke down crying. Jan immediately consoled me with just the right amount of compassion and care. She continued this treatment post op. She eased my mind and I have remembered her care, concern and treatment after my surgery. She anticipated my pain and treatment of my incision.

I believe she was instrumental in getting me moved out of my room where I had a very disagreeable lady in the bed next to me. I truly appreciated that! When I went home and had to come back the next day and she saw me walking, she came up to me and asked what happened and assured me everything would work out. As it turned out I was in and out of the hospital for almost three weeks! The doctor discovered my kidney stones were causing more pain and I had to have them taken care of. Again, Jan saw me and gave me a hug and apologized for all my pain and discomfort. She kept reassuring me that every day would be better.

Jan's caring compassion, good humor and professional attitude was what I needed. She always had a smile. She is an amazing woman, nurse and human being. You are very fortunate to have her. She felt like family. All of the nurse and techs treated me like I was family. Everyone (including my family) kept saying 'why did you go to BROADLAWNS?' I told them I was treated like royalty the entire time I was there and have told everyone why I like your facility. You are doing an excellent job! Kudos!

When my mother arrived to the Med/Surg unit her admitting nurse, Jan, greeted us with an infectious smile and as she helped settle Mom in her bed, she looked directly at her and said, "My mother-in-law's name is Marlene, too. I have a feeling you and I are going to get along just fine. I love my mother-in-law and I bet I'll love you, too!" After an especially rough day for my mom, Jan's welcome to the Med/Sug unit was so comforting. She assessed my mother and assured her and me that she would keep a close watch over her throughout the night and would get a handle on her pain, getting an order for increased pain medication, if needed. My mom's oxygen sats would periodically drop, not necessarily upon exertion and when it happened, Mom became frantic. Jan remained calm, talked softly, turned up the oxygen and stayed with Mom until her levels came back up. Jan told Mom to hit her call light anytime she felt anxious or had to get up as she did not want her trying to get up alone. "I will come right in and we will take care of whatever."

Mom felt Jan was confident and she could handle her care. Mom relaxed for the first time all day. Throughout my mom's four-day admission, even when Jan didn't have her as a patient, she would stop in to see how we were all doing, give my mom a hug and tell her what a great nurse she was assigned to. She even came in one night to show Mom the "Christmas" manicure she'd just had done.

Jan was professional, energetic, always smiling and just so very kind with my mother who was very, very ill. Jan took the time to explain things to Mom and she shared hugs with all of us as Mom deteriorated during her time at Broadlawns. She was empathetic. Jan is much deserving of a DAISY Award. She is a gem!

Jan is the most caring and helpful nurse. When she comes in my room she always has a kind word and smile for me. Jan is very professional in her work. She always shows me respect and care even if I'm not in the best of moods. I believe Jan is the kind of nurse everyone should have. She shows compassion and excellence in her work and with her patients. She's a real person and a joy!

Jan helped me from the first day I was admitted to the hospital. I was in terrible pain and she went to bat for me. She is the type of person who just lifts your spirits from the first time you see her. She is happy and the most caring person I have ever met. Jan was definitely my DAISY when I needed one.

Jan is excellent at what she does. She is very caring and helps me out with everything I need. She is also very respectful to me. Jan is very enthusiastic and always makes me laugh, I almost forget about my pain.
