I often hear from patients during the Acute Rehab Discharge Survey phone calls about the excellent care they received from Helen. Often they recognize her for her compassion, respect, and excellence in her care. She always greets everyone with a smile and when she helps others, it is with genuine care and concern.

As an observer of her care when my mom was a patient in Acute Rehab, I witnessed firsthand what others continually say about Helen. My mom said "Helen is a gentle soul who genuinely cares and makes you feel special by addressing all your needs. As a patient, I was very shy to have a male nurse tend to me, and although they were all kind and understanding, Helen stepped up and assisted me with my personal care even though I was not assigned to her." I was confident my mom was cared for which really helped decrease any stress and anxiety.

Helen is a remarkable individual and clinician. She is a true advocate for patients and patient safety. She has been a member of the Falls Committee and Unit Based Council for many years and has been the voice of not only night shift but also the Acute Rehab Unit. Helen is highly respected by staff and other disciplines. She is considered as the "go-to" person. Helen also played an integral part during the EPIC go-live last year. She was the super-user and made sure that all staff was comfortable with the transition. Lastly, I find Helen as a person who is loyal, diligent, conscientious, competent, and most importantly, compassionate, and that is why I believe she deserves to be a DAISY Award Honoree!
