I am nominating my postpartum care nurse, Gianna. Gianna is the kind of care giver you never forget. I had an extended stay with my child's birth and was blessed to have Gianna as my nurse on my second and third nights at SFMC. My third night would have been extremely difficult without my nurse. She went above and beyond for me and my baby. I was unable to sleep for 2 days and deliriously exhausted on the third day. This was also a difficult night for my baby as his second night alive. Baby was only interested in crying or nursing but not in Mommy sleeping. Gianna went way out of her way on assisting me on nursing, pumping, and supplementing with donor milk to calm baby. When he was still restless, she volunteered to watch my baby while I slept. I feel I would not have survived the night if it weren't for Gianna. All the extra support with baby and especially nursing ensures I will be successful at nursing and caring for my baby in high stress times. Gianna also went above and beyond by hand writing down tips and tricks she knows on how and when to feed baby. She printed additional information to further assist me in this transition. This staff member had a plethora of breast feeding knowledge and is exactly the kind of nurse that has the potential to be a deciding factor on whether someone is successful in nursing or not. She is a very valuable asset to this hospital and should be honored as such. Thank you, Gianna for a great experience and lasting knowledge.
