Garett comes to work with a positive attitude every night, ready to care for patients and families as well as serve as an active member of the Center 7 team. She spreads her positive attitude to others. She is a nurse her coworkers view as exceptional.

She is able to adapt to each patient and family situation. Her ability to adapt makes people able to trust her, be comforted by her and also confident she will be a strong advocate for that family. She ensures the parent's needs are met, caring for them as a person even though they aren't the official "patient". She forms strong bonds with patients and families. Families love working with Garett. Any coworker can testify that the families notice and appreciate her caring nature, as she is often a nurse requested by families to have her work with them again. It's obvious she builds a trusting rapport with families from the start.

Garett is always acting in the service of kids and families. She takes the time to play with her patients, instead of just getting her tasks done and sitting at the desk. She gets along well with other nurses and works well with the residents, fellows and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Garett is such a team player! She is always willing to jump in to help her staff. Garett can be found every shift going into the rooms of her coworkers to respond to call lights or beeping if the appropriate nurse isn't available. She is kind to all members making her a very approachable person day after day. She is always willing to lend a hand to a fellow nurse in order to make a chaotic night less chaotic.

An older child who is frequently hospitalized, usually alone, stated that he likes having Garett as a nurse because she is always there for him, especially during rough nights. One night, she critically analyzed his changing behavior to see that his condition was worsening. Although he was older, she read what a difficult time that patient was having and offered him a stuffed animal for comfort. He not only appreciated her keen eye for his changing medical condition, but brings that stuffed animal as a good luck charm when he gets re-admitted. That patient always remembers her and requests her as his RN because he knows he can expect care that goes above and beyond. She meets the needs of the whole patient: medical, physical, and psychological, and uses her resources to provide the best care for each patient.

Overall, Garett is open to learning. She isn't afraid to ask questions if she needs clarification or if something doesn't seem right. Garett will also speak up if she feels as if something isn't going right or a workflow could be improved.
