Flor recently stepped in to fill in as a regular charge while two of our charge nurses are on leave. Although Flor was a relatively new relief charge nurse, she has taken on this role with passion and diligence. Flor's leadership skills have blossomed in this new role. During staff rounding this past month, nearly every person I spoke with praised Flor for the fantastic job she is doing as interim charge nurse. The staff speaks of her calm demeanor even during times of chaos and crisis, which helps set the tone of the unit, keeping the levels of tension and anxiety low.

Flor has great communication skills and relates well with the nurses, other disciplines, and most of all our patients and families. Because Flor speaks fluent Spanish, she creates strong bonds with our Spanish-speaking families that often are lacking with nurses and other team members who do not speak Spanish. Flor's compassion and empathy are visible in all her interactions with patients and families. Flor's ability to communicate her understanding and empathy of the situation make her a favorite of families, and she is often recognized for her outstanding care and compassion during daily family rounds.

Flor regularly advocates for her patients and families, working to ensure that they receive the best care and are working toward improved health and discharge. Flor definitely sees the whole picture, and understands that collaboration among all team members is required to provide optimal care and to help CHOC achieve its goal of being a nationally recognized children's hospital.

I believe that Flor possesses all the qualities of a DAISY nurse, and I strongly advocate for her receiving this honor. Flor is a humble person who does not seek accolades although she is most deserving of them.
