I had some health issues going on that resulted in me collapsing in my yard. Faye lives a few houses up from me. Fay and her son came to my aid when they noticed me lying in my yard barely breathing. Her instincts took over and she called 911. I was barely breathing and had a very slow heart rate when she found me and she helped me to breathe until help arrived. I thank the good Lord above for leading her to find me because I may not be here today if not for that. My wish is that she could be recognized in some way by the hospital for her great deed. I personally can never repay her for what she did but I will forever be indebted to her. I had never met Fay before this happened but she is truly a great person and I know she is a great nurse.

I would like to nominate her for the DAISY Award because I feel she went above and beyond the call of duty and her and God are the sole reason that I am still here today.

...and from the patient's fiance: I would like to nominate Fay McConnell for the DAISY Award. She saved the life of my fiance'. She found him in our yard unresponsive and barely breathing. Without a second thought, she performed mouth to mouth until the EMS arrived. I received a call at work that he was at Palmetto Richland. When I arrived he was on a ventilator. If it had not been for Fay's heroic act, he would not have survived until I had gotten home.

The hospital told me that a neighbor found him, but didn't have any other information. He was transferred the next day to Baptist and remained in ICU for the next 6 days. Due to spending all day at the hospital and leaving at 10:00 p.m., I did not find out the details of what happened until 3 days later. There was a knock at the door, it was Fay. This was the first time I had met Fay.

Faye described what happened, but her story didn't end there. She described the steps she took to try and make sure our dog was o.k. Since Fay had not seen anyone at our home, she was concerned our indoor dog was not being cared for. She called the police to see if they could come and and check on her. She found out my name and tried to see if she could locate a phone number. Since we do not have a home phone, that search was unsuccessful. Needless to say, she was as relived to meet me as I was thankful to meet her.

Fay is remarkable. Her desire and compassion for others shines through. She deserves to be recognized for her life saving measures.
