Betsy routinely connects with her patients and their families. Her care is patient-centered x 1000 if that is possible. While at the bedside she listens to, laughs with, cries with, and supports her patients. A gentleman who came from an extended care facility where he voiced legitimate concerns about his care which she confirmed by her assignment. He was anxious about further care. Betsy worked diligently to remedy the patient's issues which she could have easily passed off to others because it was not her responsibility. Furthermore, she provided emotional support and the immediate care he needed. He has since been a patient who has needed further care here at MCE and he always asks about Betsy and continues to praise her support of him, often saying, "I couldn't have made it through without her".
It is Betsy's normal manner to connect with her patients during the time she spends with them placing their vascular access. She takes the time to connect to them and estimate their needs. Besides the high performance, competent vascular access insertions skill she possesses, she also can judge whether a patient needs laughter, reassurance, or empathy. She has a way of positively impacting those she meets and cares for through her ability to make an authentic connection.
