The winner of the 2015 DAISY Extraordinary Nurse Excellence Award for the Fox Valley exemplifies acting in the service of children and families. Diane Langdon, BSN, RN, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse, was nominated by two NICU mothers.
H shared how Diane helped her cope with a difficult separation after the birth of her son four years ago. What started as a normal glucose test at 28 weeks, ended in an emergency c-section due to preeclampsia. After a few days, H was finally feeling well enough to see her son in the NICU. But lightheadedness and feeling hot' lead to a blood pressure check which was followed by an instant ticket to the Emergency Department. Her second admission into the hospital, now with ecclampsia, meant H and her son would be apart once more.
As H recalled, "They told me I couldn't visit by baby for awhile and that he could not come to me. Later that day, Diane brought me an 8 x 10 photo of my little guy that said feel better mommy' and taped the picture on the bed next to my head. It made all the difference in the world. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Thank you, Diane!"

Another NICU mom, S stated that Diane went above and beyond while their son was in the NICU. She shared that Diane always made her feel like they were at home. "She listened to all of our concerns and always made sure we fully understood everything that was going on with our son, said S who added, "The most humbling experience about the NICU was there was not one time where we felt like our son was not their No.1 priority no matter how busy they were. Every baby was cared for with the same care and compassion as the next. I am glad we were at Children's Hospital in Neenah for that (NICU) experience. I don't know if there will ever enough words to show our gratitude."
