I was in the hospital in March and unfortunately had fallen through some cracks in the system. I have lung disease and congestive heart failure plus a long list of other problems. I am a very complicated person to treat. Due to a mistake in medications, I began to retain fluid. Diana was in charge of walking me and she came in one day and we started down the hall and I began to get dizzy and feeling faint. She sat me down, pushed me back to my bed, listened to me, and said she felt the fluid was not in my lungs, but around them. She got a hold of my doctor and within minutes I was in X-Ray. Sure enough, it was my first really bad bout of congestive heart failure. This story had a happy ending and the reason I am writing this is not only to praise the wonderful pulmonary department that this hospital is so fortunate to have but to shine a light on a very special person, Diana McCoy.
I have been in the hospital more times than I care to count and I have gotten to know Diana McCoy pretty well. She is a very dedicated therapist and very capable of knowing the right thing to say or do just at the right time. She is always smiling, very compassionate, and very aware of her patients' needs. And when you are as sick as I am, seeing that smiling face come through your door just makes your day. She saved me from a lot of pain and suffering and I am eternally grateful. I feel she deserves this DAISY Award for being such a valuable addition to your staff.
