My mom, Denise Shibe, has always been a positive role model and influence in my life. She has supported me in everything I chose to do and it was because of her that I chose to pursue a nursing career, just like her.

As an experienced RN for 40 years, Denise has always put her patients first and provided excellent nursing care. Her experience of working in Maternity, ICU, ER, and PACU in multiple different states and settings, has allowed her to provide the level of care a patient expects with their hospital experience. As a Kennedy employee for 30 years, Denise demonstrates the qualities one looks for when choosing a recipient to honor with the DAISY Award.

A firm believer in having family present to provide emotional support, Denise always ensures family is at the bedside when appropriate and communicates well with all individuals involved. She is compassionate and is truly gifted at connecting with her patients and patients families. She is a team player and is always there and willing to help her co-workers in any way possible.

Denise has always been very involved and passionate about her profession. She is a dedicated member of the Performance Improvement and Nursing Informatics committees here at Kennedy as well as a charge RN in the PACU. She also serves as a preceptor, orienting new employees to the recovery room. Although her health has not always been kind to her and years of working in the hospital setting has had major impact on her knees, Denise still manages to make her way into work each week with a positive attitude and smile on her face.

After celebrating her 60th birthday this year, instead of looking into retiring like most seasoned workers would have in mind, Denise chose to further her education and is currently enrolled in classes to obtain her BSN. A difficult task which is proving to be very challenging but she is still working hard and moving towards her goal of obtaining her degree. I could not think of a better person who deserves to be recognized for her hard work and dedication and for being the best RN I know. I am proud to say she is my mother and strive to one day be an exceptional nurse like her.
