According to Tammy Muczinski, Administrative Manager of Peds and NICU, "Debbie approaches patient care from a holistic perspective, taking care of each child's body, mind and spirit."

Recently Debbie had a patient that was admitted to the pediatric floor with many health issues. Debbie sensed that something was bothering this young man. As it turns out, this patient had a history of visual field disturbances and had an upcoming eye appointment with a specialist from Philadelphia. This specialist comes to Beaumont every 6 months. This patient had scheduled an appointment earlier in the year and was upset at the thought that he would miss this important appointment.

Well, Debbie flew into action. She arranged for the patient to have a leave of absence. She worked with management and the access center at the other hospital to arrange for medical transportation. This saved the patient additional venipunctures since he already had one and they did not have to remove it. The patient and his father were able to see the specialist and come back to Troy Pediatrics to complete his treatment. They were both very grateful.

To Debbie, this is all in a normal day's work and she had no idea how special this care was. This is why she was chosen for the Daisy Award Honor.
