KP is a 49 year old woman who was on ECMO in 56 ICU for 19 days. She had an esophagectomy and a partial laryngectomy in the past for esophageal cancer. She was readmitted to a local St. Louis hospital with severe respiratory failure after aspirating and suffering a respiratory arrest at home. The referring hospital was unable to treat her respiratory failure so she was sent to Barnes-Jewish Hospital as her only hope for definitive care. Dawn was her nurse for 9 of the 19 days and developed a special bond with the family that continued after she transferred to the floor. The patient and her family wrote these nominations before the patient was discharged home.

I am here today with the help of a very special angel Dawn Krimminger. She was very loving and a caring nurse who helped pull me through in my struggle to live. She is an amazing person and I think she should be recognized for her amazing dedication.

... We had about 20 different nurses of the 3 weeks. Dawn always made sure my wife had exceptional care. Dawn listened to the family very well and knew my wife's history. Dawn was always knowledgeable and informative about all of the procedures. She is the most caring and professional nurse we have ever seen. She is the kindest and most compassionate. We were blessed to have her as a nurse.

Dawn was extremely knowledgeable and caring. When my aunt arrived at this hospital the doctors were unsure if she would make it. Due to Dawn's intense care and knowledge I truly believe Dawn can be credited with the reasons my aunt is still alive.
