I nominate David Lieber, and not simply for just any one reason, rather for so very many reasons. I have two sons with Cystic Fibrosis and so as you can imagine, we are "frequent fliers" at UMHS. My sons are pretty regular patients on 12E and a big part of their care is David-in fact, at our house he is referred to as "super Dave"!

He has really taken my boys under his wing and for each and every admission he always remembers what was going on in their lives-school, football, personal achievements. One of my sons is a junior this year and has been going through a lot. He has had many issues to work out to begin the process of life after high school. This past summer, Dave sat with him a long time discussing options and reassuring him that all would come together. This son has always wanted to fly, but was not able because of his lungs, so he had to move to "plan B", Air Traffic Control. So again, Dave sat with him on his last admission talking about college and the future care of his CF. He has been a huge encouragement to him.

For my other son, Dave has also made a huge connection with him. Dave works so hard to make the boys "inclusive" in their care as we all know this is vital to them having a full life. David never stops as he is all about the details, always integrating their home plans so that there is a normal balance during their frequent admissions.

He is THAT kind of nurse, one every unit and every hospital wants to have! He is amazing with kids and there is no doubt this is where he should be. He, in my mind, embodies all and so much more of what you could ever hope to expect from your nursing staff! Thank you so much!
