Claudette Morgan was nominated to be a DAISY award nurse by one of her co-workers for her compassion and kindness. Claudette was taking care of a patient who was admitted for an acute CVA and had fallen at home. During shift report the off going RN had remarked that the patient was “scared to death” in her present state of confusion. After frequent visits to her room, the patient continued to call out voicing that she wanted to get out of here. Claudette entered the room and went through the entire list of pantry nourishments to see what appealed to the patient. Then she took in a snack and pulled up a chair and spent an entire hour by the patient’s bedside trying to reorient her to the present. She sat and patiently listened as the patient struggled with speaking and forming her words. The patient admitted that she was frustrated with her mental status and how she couldn’t remember names. Throughout it all, Claudette sat at her bedside listening as the patient became calmer and cooperative. The patient decided to stay for the night and settle in for sleep. Claudette is a very kind and caring nurse who exemplifies compassion. She truly encompasses the traits of a DAISY nurse.
