Catharine recently cared for a patient who asked to see her before being discharged, so he could personally thank her for the extraordinary nursing care she provided, and for going the extra mile on their behalf. I took a moment to speak with the patient and he shared the following:

I was having trouble breathing and I was scared. I felt the second Kate walked in the room and saw me she immediately took initiative and started to make things happen. She called physicians and set up for a cardioversion in the room. She had such a calming presence. I remember she just kept telling me to breath. She was also so good with my wife, explaining everything that was happening. She held my hand on the way to the cardiology department for a procedure and she is the last person I remember before passing out.

Kate made such a difference for this patient and his family. This patient was very happy that Kate did take the time to visit him before he was discharged, as that further exemplified her truly caring and compassionate persona. He was very pleased that Kate would be nominated for the DAISY Award, because he agrees that she truly is an extraordinary nurse!
