After laboring for 20 hours and then finding out that our baby boy was stuck (his head was at a bad angle), all seemed hopeless for a vaginal delivery. While the doctors consulted toward a c-section and exhaustion was taking charge of the labor, nurse Carol Mills clocked in to work with a smile. Carol immediately suggested a new laboring position - she had hope! She saw our exhaustion and got into every aspect of this labor with us. She was a coach, cheerleader, servant, and friend all with much skill. She knew what needed to be done and she did it with excellence. She never gave up!

Her skill, know-how, and encouragement brought the labor to a place where the doctor arrived ready to bring us in for a c-section and suddenly there was a visible baby boy coming down the birth canal! What a miraculous change! There literally was no progress for about 6 hours - we were stuck at 8cm dilated and baby boy's head at a bad angle. Then Carol labored with us and, at just the right time, our son began making his way down, and eventually was born vaginally (VBAC x2)!

Carol's hard work, compassion, servitude, know-how, and love for others (including her co-workers) makes her a perfect candidate for this award. I highly recommend her for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
