Carol was floated to our Surgical Trauma unit and was caring for a patient whose husband she had cared for on the Ortho Spine unit and who was now in the ICU. Carol felt strongly that both the wife and husband needed to spend quality time together even though they were both patients in the hospital they were in different locations. Carol spent her entire lunch break with the Surgical Trauma patient in the ICU so that she could spend time with her husband. Carol went above and beyond and did everything possible to make sure that her patient came first and had her needs taken care of. She even took the patient back to the ICU after her shift had ended and sat with her for an hour so the patient could spend as much time as possible with her husband. Carol made sure her patient was able to spend time with her husband prior to her discharge the next day to another facility. Carol took the time to help her patient find a way to get through a very difficult time and stayed by her side throughout.
