Such compassion and empathy was shown an 87 year old patient who wandered down the 3 Main hallway somewhat unsteadily, using her walker. Carmen Wilson stopped to ask if she was okay. Carmen determined she was not okay and called the patient’s nurse for her assistance.
Carmen stayed with and found her a seat and all the time assuring a very frightened patient that all was okay. The patient was tearful and shaking because she was afraid of her roommate (mostly due to her moaning all night and the other patient’s nephews in the room). Once her nurse came to attend to her, sitting with her and holding her hand assuring her we could take care of whatever was frightening her, she and Carmen arranged for her to be moved to another room to dispel her fears.
In the drama of conditions and life saving measures this may seem a small thing, but to this patient it was huge. To the employees watching, it was heartwarming to see the care afforded one of our elders.
