As our baby’s 1st birthday approaches, my husband and I are flooded with memories of our incredible delivery experience at Tahoe Forest Hospital.
Our baby was born in the front seat of our Subaru in the parking lot of the hospital, following a frightening 45 minutes drive from Carnelian Bay, in the midst of a summer road construction. We will be forever grateful to all of the nurses, doctors and staff who rushed to my rescue and then cared for me during my recovery. We were so fortunate that a very experienced nurse just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
As we pulled into the Emergency Room entrance, I opened my car door where Nurse Candy Knight arrived at my side. Faced with an already partially delivered baby and a shocked first-time mother, she came to the rescue. Candy knelt down by my side, coached me through the final push and caught our precious baby as he entered the world in this most unconventional way. We learned from Candy’s congratulatory announcement that we had just delivered a baby boy and her joy and excitement was so genuine. She reassured me and kept me calm until the ER staff figured out how to get me and baby “Subie” out of the car and safely inside.
Candy then went WAY above the call of duty. She parked our car and wiped it down so my husband wouldn’t have to deal with the mess during such a joyful time.
Sweet Candy then came upstairs to OB to visit our baby and his happy parents to make sure we were all ok. “Nurse Candy”, as we admirably refer to her, will always be a huge part of our son’s birth story and we will remember her always. Thank you Candy.
