I went to Garden City Hospital to visit my brother who was scheduled for hip surgery. I went to the surgical waiting area and was immediately escorted to the back to sit with my brother before the procedure. As I chatted with my brother I observed the interaction of the staff with each other and the manner in which they treated the other patients and was quite impressed. I want to complement the hospital staff for their kindness and pleasant demeanor, but one employee impressed me the most because of his genuine concern, his professional manner and his calm demeanor.

Calvin Stewart paid attention to small details; he noticed my brother appeared to be cold and brought more blankets. He also checked the IV and made a few adjustments. My brother was very nervous about the surgery and can sometimes be difficult. He asked several questions and the nurse responded in such a compassionate manner that it seemed to calm my brother down and gave him a sense of confidence. Calvin should be recognized for his very personal touch, his ability to be a team player and the outstanding care he showed my brother.
