I was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic - Franciscan Healthcare in October. The surgical team performed lumbar L2-3 and L3-4 laminectomies and foraminotomies on me. Around 1:00 p.m. I was transported from the surgical suite to a room on the post-op unit. After being slid onto my bed, I was greeted with a big smile by Bridget Trio, RN. I watched her as she worked. She entered the room totally focused on me. She immediately introduced herself, assuring me she would be my nurse during the shift, and told me who would be assisting her with my care.
She conducted her assessments, explained everything she was doing and what I may expect, and oriented me to my surroundings. It was obvious that she had reviewed my medical history. Bridget oozed competence and caring, allowing me to relinquish my own hyper-vigilance into her hands. When her shift was ending, she introduced me to the RN taking over my care on the night shift. I didn't expect to see her again and had thanked her for her work, but the next morning she brightly entered my room; greeting me with, "Good morning, I decided to pick up an extra shift today, and asked to have you again as my patient." As she prepared me for discharge, I was again impressed by her thorough explanations and instructions, which seemed so unhurried to me. She did everything right.
I commend Bridget Trio, RN for her exemplary services and commitment to excellence in nursing care. Thank you.

Bridget is the nurse I remember most during my post-operative distress. My breathing slowed to 4 breaths/min and my heart rate excelled. Her quick actions, attention to detail and at the same time holding my hand and gently talking to me assured me I would make it through the crisis - especially as it happened twice. It was her reassuring words and the gentleness of her voice that reminded me someone cared and was near. Thank you, Bridget; you're a blessing to our family.
