When we first met, over ten years ago, Barbara was returning to nursing after a long absence while she raised her children. At that time, I had been nursing for 20+ years and, quite frankly, a little of the newness had worn off. Barbara's enthusiasm was, at first, a little annoying. But she is such a generous soul and a patient friend. I soon found that she had rekindled my curiosity. We were both new to our situation: she was transitioning from home and I had just moved from Labor and Delivery to OPSC Recovery Room. She is a constant learner and she shared her knowledge of cardiology with me. She also wanted to know everything I could tell her drawing on my years of experience. Together, we studied what was new and different. I think my transition would have been much harder without her encouragement and support.

The other outstanding quality that makes Barbara stand out is her dedication to each patient. Her care was/is personalized to each person. She smiles a lot, she encourages a lot and her knowledge based care is exceptional. She is, first and foremost, a patient advocate. But Barbara also has a most positive way in working with others. She takes a personal interest in her coworkers and even their families and always finds ways to make all feel special.

I can't imagine a more deserving person than Barbara Peterson. She is an exceptional nurse and person.
