Audrey Nevers-Toney was the RN assigned to my room after having a spinal procedure performed. Because of previous experiences and the location of the surgery site, I was extremely nervous about the level of care I was expecting to receive. From the moment she introduced herself to me, and told me that she would be taking care of me, the nervousness began to dissipate. I had a question for pretty much anything and everything that was going on with me, my pain, the procedure, what she was doing, etc. This usually annoys my care givers to immeasurable levels, but she actively listened and did not show that for one second. She politely answered all of my questions right away, allowing me to actually lay back and relax, which I have never been able to do as a patient.
I know that I was not the only patient on the unit, but that is exactly how she made me feel; that I was her only concern. My position within the HS allows me to view the care given by nurses on all units, all day long. Although I see great patient care being given, it still does not compare to the level of care that I feel I was given. Luckily, I am a healthy individual and do not have to spend too much time in the hospital, but if that became the case and I received the level of care that Audrey provided, I would almost look forward to going to the hospital. Audrey’s unit, Nurse Manager, and her patients are all extremely lucky that she is here. These words do not come close to explaining the gratitude I have for the manner in which I was treated by Audrey Nevers-Toney.
