Ashley Rostek is a shining example of a nurse who places other's best interests as a top priority and who sees herself as part of a team, always trying to better our unit and organization. Ashley is the chair of Unit 21's Clinical Practice Committee. She takes this role seriously and is always finding ways to implement new ideas. She cares about out unit morale and frequently organizes unit outings to bring us closer together so that we may not only enjoy ourselves and decompress but also get to know one another better, so that we may come together in other areas and provide the best patient care possible. She truly cares.
Most recently, Ashley planned our offsite Christmas party, an event so popular that staff are already talking about what next year's party will be like. Ashley is always volunteering her own time and resources to help others. For example, she held an extremely successful blood drive here at IAH. Not only was it one of the first blood drives we have seen here at Alex in quite awhile, but it surpassed its goal of 35 units of donated blood. This past year Ashley also lead the team and raised funds for the AHA heart walk as well as volunteered in a fashion show to raise money for much needed new equipment at the hospital. As if these examples (just a few out of many she has accomplished) weren't enough to show her commitment and drive, Ashley has most recently created the TULIP award and is now chair of the DAISY/Tulip committee. This award serves to nominate exceptional technicians of all types, something that had been previously overlooked proving she is always thinking of others first.
Ashley is an amazing leader who can always be found helping nurses during our work day, making sure we have everything we need and letting us know she is there for us. Lastly but definitely not least, Ashley Rostek performs all of these kind acts on top of going to school full time. She is truly an amazing person, which carries through to her work, and is a wonderful example of a leader, team member, nurse, and friend to all of us.
