Ashley was the heart of our experience; she was the first nurse we met and the last nurse to discharge us. Upon quickly entering the room, her face was the first I saw and while pushing she was the one person on whom I focused to keep me calm and in control. She rejoiced with us as we welcomed R and while doing so she explained to me how the delivery went, what it included and what was to happen immediately following in a way that made us feel at ease. She continued to be our nurse for the next few days and worked alongside the doctors and lactation to support me in caring for R. Her bright smile and genuine kindness always made me feel confident to take on each new motherly challenge so much so that it was hard to say good bye.
The day after our initial discharge he was readmitted for jaundice and I was devastated. When we arrived to our room we were told that Ashley would be our nurse and my broken heart was immediately uplifted. Ashley reassured me that R was getting the treatment he need and again she supported me in every aspect from breast feeding and pumping to using formula and even caring for myself physically and emotionally. Without her positivity and compassion, I know I would have had a much harder time during this stay.
Being two teachers we were so happy to see that Ashley had a student nurse shadowing her during our stay. We agreed that she was the perfect candidate to have any new nurse model after. When we once again had to leave, it was still tough to imagine not seeing her every day I made sure that we sincerely expressed our appreciation to her. She was touched and told us that she truly loves her job. That could not be more obvious she is doing exactly what is meant to be and thank goodness for us.
