The male patient was assigned to April upon arrival to the hospital in serious condition, while his wife was quite apprehensive about medical procedures, medical jargon, all the machines on the Intensive Care Unit, but most of all concerned about making decisions on behalf of her husband. April's clear and understandable explanations to the wife helped immensely to make more confident decisions.
"During the process, April was non-judgmental and compassionate to us. She took the time to learn more about my husband's likes/dislikes and the type of man he was. My husband was on a ventilator for many days, when he became more coherent, he started to be very agitated with the ventilator and his inability to speak. April had a very calming presence and could talk him into calming down, explained why he needed to relax and explained why the ventilator was necessary. When April left the room, she would give the patient thumbs up and encouragement."
April was always there for her patient and wife. No matter how long of a shift she worked she would always leave the patient with a smile, and encouraging words. Her compassion and knowledgeable is a wonderful asset.
"April truly made an impression on our family and will hold a special place in our hearts."
