...Tony may be a manager, but he's still a bedside nurse at heart. Tony is always ready to do whatever it takes to maintain the integrity and quality of bedside care, even if it means stepping away from his office work to visit with patients and families that may need extra support and time from staff.

It is inspirational when patients and families enjoy seeing the manager of a unit. It shows that they know who he is and appreciate the difference that he's making. Tony is a constant mentor to fellow leaders and rising leaders in his department and other areas.

When I took on my leadership role several people approached me and made sure to tell me what a good mentor I had in Tony. I heard stories of how he quietly reached out to new managers to welcome them and give them any advice that they needed in their new role. Tony also makes sure that his staff members feel supported and encouraged in their work, adapting to their feedback and making sure they have the resources they need to maintain great patient care.
