Just this morning I noticed Annette was late leaving. I went up to her and asked what I could do to help her so she could go home. She said she was finishing her work but that one of her patients was a DNR and would likely not make it through the next shift. She told me the family was coming in from out of town and she knew the day nurse was going to be very busy. She wanted to fix the patient's hair, change her dressing and her linens and make the room and patient look nice. This way the family could have a better last memory and it might make it easier for them. I thought this was a very kind gesture.

Most of us are so tired at the end of a shift that we are just concerned about getting home safely. Annette goes the extra mile. She is not only kind to her patients but she goes out of her way to be an outstanding co-worker and peer. She is a mentor to returning nurses and her peers. She offers them encouragement to grow and learn.
