My husband was a patient on the Progressive Care Unit late last year. He had a severe respiratory infection and found it difficult to breathe. He became anxious during the night, knowing that his oxygen saturation levels were going down. We were so impressed with the care he received from Andres Ordonez, RN. Andres was his night nurse for most of the time my husband was in the hospital. My husband thought he was the most kind, caring and skilled nurse he has seen in a long time. No request was too large or too small and he immediately addressed all of my husband's concerns. Andres remembered to ask about things that happened the night before. He explained everything that he has planned to do that evening. He always asked if there was anything else he could do before he left the room. He was friendly and engaged my husband in conversations during the night which my husband appreciated. He was calm and reassuring.

When a person can't breathe or can't stop coughing it can cause anxiety. My husband was concerned about his oxygen level dropping and Andres during the night brought in a pulse ox machine to allow my husband to check his oxygen level. Andres showed him that if he took deeper breaths his oxygen level would come up. Andres referred to himself as a "rookie" nurse, but we feel that this "rookie" nurse set an example of compassion and caring that other nurses can emulate. By giving him the DAISY Award recognition it will reinforce the good habits Andres is developing early in his nursing career. He is super deserving of this award!
