October DAISY Award 2010- Memorial Health Care System

I would like to nominate Amy Ragan, RN, from Interventional Radiology, for the DAISY Award. Amy consistently demonstrates the qualities of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence when caring for her patients. She recently reinforced my belief that she deserves such a wonderful award of compassion when caring for a patient in an interventional radiology procedure. We had a patient that took a turn for the worse and unexpectedly passed away during the procedure. The patient’s daughter, who was already upset and distraught before the procedure, was completely devastated with the news of her mother’s passing. The daughter requested that she see her mother one last time and the physician and staff offered her that opportunity. During the time the daughter spent saying good bye to her mother, Amy stood beside her holding her hand and talking her through her grieving. While the rest of the Interventional Radiology Staff was mourning the loss of this patient, Amy stood strong, showing great compassion and remaining completely committed to the wellbeing of this mourning family. I truly believe that Amy Ragan has the characteristics that define the DAISY Organization and the DAISY Award. I am honored and so very proud to have her as a part of the Imaging Service Team.

Thank you,
