Amy is such a special nurse. She will never know the impact she had on our family. My 5-year old had his finger cut off in a closing door at church. I was out of my mind with fear. Fortunately, I had a friend who was willing to drive us to the Emergency Room at Rapid City Regional Hospital. We arrived and were taken back to a room almost immediately. Amy was assigned to be our nurse, and from that moment on, my life changed. Within a few minutes, Amy had calmed both me and my son down and had begun the process of distracting my son from the pain. I am still amazed at what she was able to find in that ER room to use as a toy! A glove became a balloon; a syringe became a squirt gun, etc. When I had left the church, I had left my other 3 boys with other parents and was able to call all of them and give them updates because my son wasn’t screaming his head off anymore.
There was a significant delay in seeing the doctor because of another, more complicated case. Amy continued to check in on us on a frequently; we felt like we were her only patient-yet the ER was very busy.
I can never begin to thank Amy for all that she did for us that evening. Amy was absolutely an answer to our prayers. And, I am glad to report that my son is doing well. The doctor was able to reattach the finger and the stitches have come out. He is running around, just as playful as ever. Thank you Amy.
