I was involved in a horrific accident recently. Once admitted, I was moved to the sixth floor. By Sunday evening, the pain was at an all-time high and it was shift change (7:00 pm). Amber came into my room by 7:30 to introduce herself. She asked for "my story", she took agenuineinterest, showed sincere empathy and remained professional. I had been waiting for a neck brace to be replaced, as I was still wearing the EMS collar 17 hours later. It was extremely uncomfortable. Neuro had told me it would be changed; the entire day I asked and was told that I had to wait, or that people were working on it and at one point, I was told it was never put in writing. Amber learned of this when she came in and met me and she made it happen. No excuses! That meant more than words. She checked on me very regularly, kept my pain meds on schedule and treated me respectfully. Amber has kept up with my med schedule. I didn't have to use the call button at all when she was on duty. I never had to wait for her to make her rounds before she would do what was needed for me. There was never a time I was without my pain meds, to the extent that once the next dose came, the previous had not completely run out. Amber made sure I understood everything going on and all the procedures taking place. She answered all my questions. I felt she truly cared for me, as well as her other patients.
I could go on and on about how great she was. She is truly an asset to the staff of Columbus Regional. I will forever be grateful for the care she provided while I was here. I'm actually glad to be staying one more night because she is back on duty this evening.
