I am writing to express my deepest gratitude to Amanda Strub who was our nurse on duty on the morning my mother passed away. My mom was 90 years old and had been placed under Hospice Care the day before. We knew death was imminent, so our family (about 10-people) had been keeping watch around the clock for a couple days. My 90-year old dad and I had left the hospital around 11:30 the night before she passed. We were getting ready to return to the hospital the next morning when Amanda called me. Her voice was kind and sympathetic. I knew before she got the words out what she was about to say; mom died around 10:00 am. When we returned to Bethesda shortly after that, Amanda greeted us at the door and was extremely sweet, calming and helpful to Dad and me. He has dementia, and he worries a lot. I had never been through the death of someone so close to me, so I needed reassurance and support - that's for sure! Amanda was everything I could have hoped for. I hugged her so many times that day. Amanda told me the details of mom's passing, I was so grateful when she said, "I hope it is ok, I prayed with her". The tears flowed - Amanda was definitely in the right place at the right time….she prayed my mom into the arms of Jesus. Our whole family was so thankful for this.
Amanda's actions were deeply felt by our family. Amanda is a true gem!
