Alyssa demonstrated dedication to her profession by attending to a swimmer who was having an asthma attack at a swim meet where her daughter was competing. When the ambulance arrived, Alyssa gave the EMT specific information about the swimmer and the nature of her complaint all the while assuring the young lady that everything would be okay. She came to assist even without being asked and nearly missed her own daughter participate in the meet. Alyssa was able to help calm the swimmer until an ambulance arrived. Alyssa clearly exemplifies what an extraordinary nurse can do for patients who are in distress-remain calm, advocate on their behalf, demonstrate expertise, and be selfless in delivering excellent care.
