Alexandra was my sister's recovery room nurse when she had her LAVH. She was very attentive, like she always is, but she noticed that something was not right for a surgery that was a very textbook case. She brought my sister's low blood pressure and very pale coloring to the attention of one of our anesthesiologists. They gave her more fluids and kept an eye on her. She was very insistent with the anesthesiologist that she thought something was wrong. Because of Alexandra, my sister's life was saved.
She had a bleed in her abdomen that was not there at the end of surgery. By the time she was brought back to surgery, she had about 2-3 liters of blood in her abdomen. All in all, she had to get 4 units of blood and 2 units of plasma. If not for the watchful eyes of Alexandra Siman and the trust that our anesthesiologists place in our nurses to know what's going on with our patients, my sister could have died.
I believe in our hospital as a whole, but our surgical department is top notch because we have great nurses who not only do their jobs, but do them extremely well and they take pride in that. Our surgical services staff, from our housekeepers to our surgeons and anesthesiologists and all that are between are here for one reason, and one reason only, and that is to provide the best care possible! My family and I will forever be grateful to Alex and everyone else that made a difference in the life of my sister and our family that day.
